On May 21st I’ll be having a booth at the Carbondale Art & Wine Fest. Besides most of my paintings, I’ll be selling glassware, jewelry, ceramic coasters, hypertufa planters, notebooks and printable.
Wine Glasses drying
Mexican Tiles for Coasters
Wrap Bracelets
I wanted to do a hundred more things but realized with time constraints that it would be a useful way to utilize my time to do less.
I did realize one thing. I am not a big fan of painting on glass. It’s too hard a medium for me to control and found the effects not what I wanted. Good thing I learned that early so not to waste my time. But I’ll have a few pieces.
Also I started playing with making ceramic bowls that resemble open flowers. But I’ll focus on that for the fall show in October. No pieces will be available for the May event.
And If there is anything you’d like to see me create, feel free to comment below.
My husband is obsessed with music, always has been. And his collection of mp3 ranges in the 30,000s. That being said, Brian and I don’t have a lot of music in common. However, we both love a band called The Fleet Foxes. I’m proud to say that I introduced him to their music and he fell in love with them.
So you can guess how excited I was to hear they are coming to the Ryman, which is only 3 hours away. On Friday night, we’ll be listening to the beautiful harmonies and soaking in the ambiance. I can’t wait!
I love using a white paint pen. And it’s not just the fumes (even tho they make my head feel fuzzy)! I think they really make these peacock feathers pop.

What I love about painting is getting completely lost in the creation. When I was in college and studying drawing, I always felt under pressure to live up to the other artists in my class. It took all the joy of drawing out of me. I can only assume that’s why I rarely picked up pen until this year.
So I have a friend, LaShonna, who works at Williamson Co. Child Advocacy Center. It’s a wonderful program that aids children in crisis. On Saturday they are having an a Celebrity Waiter Gala/Art Auction and I was honored to be asked to donate a piece. And it just so happened that I had a piece of work I was retooling and thought it would be perfect for the event. It’s titled, “She dares one last look at her past.”

Here what I loved about the painting:
1. Love the colors (o’course)
2. Love all the detail work. When you look close up at a peacock tail, it’s nothing but line after line of texture. Wonderful!
3. Loved the texture I got from peacock number one that looks like a tree. I think I will use this in the future in different ways on some paintings.
Here’s what I didn’t like about the painting:
1. I screwed up the peacocks outline on the Peacock #1. I originally tried to place a white outline that got out of control and decided to cover it with black ink.
2. I didn’t like having such a busy background when the peacock has a lot of details.
3. On Peacock #1 I would try to make the color blend instead of being like a color block in the background.
All and all, I think I’ll try more of these in the future. In fact I did. Click here to see Peacock #2.

So I’ve been a big fan of a writer named Jon Acuff. For those who don’t know, I love blogs and have several that I visit daily. His is one of them.
He has a new book coming out called Quitter-closing the gap between your day job and your dream job.
Check it out here.
I love my current job and wouldn’t leave it for the world, but I have been trying to keep creative by doing such things as painting and blogging. However, I would like to see how I can be more. My husband already preordered it, and so should you!
